Anika had her first doctor's appointment on Friday at 7 days old. I took her to my family doctor who I've had for the past 23 years. He technically isn't taking on new patients at this stage of his career, but little Anika worked her charm and he agreed to take her. The last time I saw my family doctor was a year ago when I needed a pre-operative assessment prior to my last hysteroscopy. He was also very kind in supplying me with notes for medical leave time from work for my IVF attempts. The last contact I had with him was the day a copy of my positive pregnancy test results arrived on his desk, and he called to congratulate us. I remember him getting all choked up. From there I was referred to an obstetrician for my prenatal care and didn't have the need to see my GP at all during the pregnancy.
As we suspected Anika is a very healthy baby. She has surpassed her birth weight, and is now just over 8lbs. She slept through the entire visit at the doctor's office while he did his exam. He used to deliver and see a lot of babies, so even though he doesn't do this kind of work much anymore, you could tell he's done thousands of these well baby visits over the years. All systems are a go, and she passed all of her routine screening tests with flying colours. He reviewed all the standard questions and recommendations for baby care with us. We go back at 4 weeks of age for another check up.

Way to go, Anika! Keep up the excellent work, baby :) So great that you were able to share your joy with your Dr. have a great day, Rhubarb
ReplyDeleteHi there! Just looking through the photos again. Anika is gorgeous. Her sweet little face is really making me miss those newborn days. It's hard to believe that George is nearly 11 months old and now walking. Where has the time gone?
ReplyDeleteWe're just back from a sailing trip. It was pretty quiet out there this time of year, and the spot on Pender Island we like to visit was closed for renovations! Darn it! We made do though. I was thinking about you and your new family while we were out there, and I hope we can finally meet someday on the Island. Hopefully this summer?
Glad things are going so well. You deserve every happiness!
Good news!!! She sure is a healthy little girl...take care!
ReplyDeleteSara -I'd love to get together this summer, and maybe even get out on the water together. Anika already has a lifejacket!
ReplyDeleteKeep me posted when you are out this way.
I will keep in touch! I love that Anika already has a lifejacket. Water baby!
