Late Period

The other day I realized my period was late. I hadn't really been keeping track, but looked back at the calendar and figured it was a couple of days overdue. I assumed it was just the breastfeeding and my cycles getting regulated again post partum. I couldn't even remember if there was any 'snuggling' going on around the middle of the month -LOL. The thought did cross my mind though that maybe I should take a pregnancy test. Yikes! I got rid of all the ones I had in the house last year. The last thing I figured I'd be doing would be running out to buy a pee stick.

I decided to wait it out a few days and see... and good old trusty Aunt Flo arrived this morning. She was just a bit tardy this month.

The period thing doesn't carry the emotion like it used to. Long ago it would have been a real worry if I was late, then for so long it was such a disappointment when it arrived, now I'm a bit indifferent about it actually.

While I would welcome another pregnancy if it happened, I'm not really there just yet. Anika is still so young and I wouldn't even be back to work long enough to qualify for another maternity leave.

Anyway, I hope it is mostly done before we go camping in a few days.

First Camping and Kayaking Trip

We attempted a little camping trip recently and some easy paddling, baby style. We decided to go about an hour away from home to a campground where our friends have an RV, and the water is exceptionally calm in the estuary.

Anika did really well thankfully. The travel playpen was a perfect fit in the van. We all managed to actually get some sleep, and our campsite neighbours were still our friends the next morning.

Paddling was another first. She liked looking around from the boat, but especially enjoyed trying to teethe on the paddle leash. Will we go again? Probably, once we get through the mountain of laundry and sort out an easier method of getting the kayaks onto the roof of the van. This was the first time in 6 months that I missed having my car.

Head Update

We had our follow up with the pediatrician this morning. Good news -Anika's head circumference has grown by 1cm in the last 6 weeks and is still right on the 50%ile for her age. Her head is round and symmetrical so he suspects the skull sutures are all not yet fused even if the fontanelles are no longer open, so there is room for her brain to continue on growing. She weighed in at 18 lbs 7 oz and is 26 inches tall, again just above average. So this means no more visits with the pediatrician, and we just have to do another head circumference check at 9months with our family doctor. Yay!

1/2 Birthday

Anika is half a year old today! It's been an amazing first 6 months, and I'm really looking forward to all of the things the next 6 months will bring. She's really getting fun now, and has such a nice temperament. She sits on her own and rolls both directions. She's got a babble on and I caught her doing da da da the other day. She is doing a grand job of feeding herself and absolutely loves food in whatever form it comes in. She's even sleeping far better at night now too.

This week also brought the arrival of some summer weather finally here on the "Wet" coast. We went to the children's spray park this afternoon and I think every family in town had the same idea. It was packed to the brim. It's nice to spend time out on our deck too, and great to not have to wear so many layers of clothes.

I'm also finally starting to feel like I'm getting back in shape. I've signed up for stroller fitness class twice a week instead of once for the month of July. My husband has been working away a lot and this leaves me home without a vehicle, so I've also been walking everywhere. I'm determined to drop this fertility med weight before the year is out.

This 6 month milestone also means my maternity leave is half over already -Gah! I'm really enjoying being off, and am kind of dreading having to leave her all day.

Anyway, I'll leave on a happy note. Happy 1/2 birthday my little sweet.
