Bonjour!

Bonjour! We have been in France now for a week and will be heading to Germany tomorrow.

Anika traveled really well on the plane. We flew KLM and they were very accommodating in giving us a seat with a bassinet and extra room in front to get up and walk around. She was quite interested in all the happenings going on around her and barely made a peep most of the way. The shuttle van from Geneva to Chamonix wasn't as easy, but luckily it was only an hour. Strapping an overtired baby who's been traveling for 24 hours into a carseat and expecting a peaceful trip for other passengers was just a bit too much to ask I suppose. Darn... I should have packed that box of ear plugs to pass around.

It took a day or so to get over our jetlag, and for Anika to sort out her days & nights again. She's been sleeping  at night quite well for the most part -usually 12 hours in 3 chunks of 4 hours or so. Sometimes she'll even go up to 6 hours and just wake once in the night. We had one rough night where she was up every hour - perhaps my cafe au lait earlier that day or just a growth spurt.

My husband has done a fair bit of skiing while Anika and I tour the town between nap times. The weather here is surprisingly warm for the mountains. We have a fantastic little sunny balcony overlooking Mt. Blanc. Perfect for sitting out in a t-shirt. Today it was raining so we opted to go to the pool for a swim. It was Anika's first time in the water. She seemed quite intrigued. She enjoyed kicking her legs, and even made a little friend from the UK.

I think we are finally turning a corner with the thrush. I don't know whether leaving the continent was the ticket, but it seemed to clear up just after we got here. I've indulged in the odd bit of sugar in wine, crepes, and chocolate and it hasn't flared up. I figure as long as I don't go crazy with sweets we should be fine.

I've been reading this book called "Bringing up Bebe" -an American woman's observations of French parenting. It's an interesting read and particularly interesting to be reading it in France. I'll blog more about it later when we have Internet. Right now the only free wifi is at the MacDonalds across the street. It makes it a bit limiting to write a lot.

Hmmm... I think that's about it. Au Revoir!
Photos to follow when the internet connection is better...

  1. Rhubarb says: oh mon dieu am I ever jealous! Hope you are still having a blast and that your travels are going smoothly. What a wonderful family bonding experience. Glad to hear the thrush is clearing up a bit and also that you have managed to indulge in the odd delicacy while in Europe. Looking forward to pictures! That is awesome that Annika got the hang of kicking in the pool -- what a fun new thing to do :)
