New York, New York

Wow, it feels like ages since I've blogged. There is a lot to update.

Firstly the week away in New York City was super fun. It's quite a departure from our usual vacations where we go places to escape from crowds. When we got the invite to this cousin's Bar Mitzvah event a couple of years back, we decided maybe it would be different to take a vacation to a big city. Then came fertility treatments, and we waffled about booking the flights. We decided to go for it, and book the trip, because after a while you reach a point where you have to live your life instead of avoiding doing things you might enjoy, just in case.

Then something surprising happened -I got pregnant with the last cycle. We decided that unless there was a good reason that my Dr. felt I shouldn't travel, as long as there were no complications seen on the 7 week scan, we'd make the trip. I had the scan on a Monday and was on the plane to New York on Thursday. My RE did not see any problem with me traveling, and he wrote me a little note to verify that I was pregnant so I could avoid going through the new x-ray scanners at the airports.

Part of the reason for going was also because we'd be able to see my in-laws in person and share our news with them. On the way there, we had a 2 hour layover in Toronto, so my MIL agreed to meet us at the airport for dinner. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed and 2 hours turned into 20 minutes, so it ended up being a quick "Hi mom, good to see you, by the way we're expecting, gotta run" kind of meet ups. Whew, no time to get choked up over details! The next day we shared with my father in law when we arrived in New York. He was attending the same event, so we were able to spend a couple of days with him. We cautioned them that it was still very early in the game and we aren't wanting to tell the world just yet. I'm sure my MIL's entire group of friends now knows, however. I guess it's like the song "New York, New York start spreading the news".

The Bar Mitzvah itself was good, but a very long endurance of a service at just under 3 hours. I had to bring some snacks along in my purse and try to nibble without drawing attention so to avoid having nausea. There were several meals shared with the extended family over the three days surrounding the event, and it was fun to watch the large group of second cousins playing together. I imagined our little squirt being thrown in with this rambunctious bunch once in a while -oh boy!

We decided to stay on an extra few days to do some sightseeing. We packed in:
  • Museum of Modern Art
  • Guggenheim
  • Empire State Building
  • Museum of Natural History
  • Rockefeller Center
  • Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
  • and last but not least a Broadway Show
Each day was scheduled around my late afternoon nap, so usually we saw one attraction in the morning, and another in the evening. I've found if I don't get my nap, I get really nauseous. It's a good warm up because it's likely just the beginning of scheduling our lives around naps!

I'm now home and, it's good to be back to a normal routine again. I hit the 9 week mark yesterday and was able to stop taking my Estrace and Prometrium. Hooray, freedom from the Prometrium snail! I have my vagina back!
