A couple of times we've been to other people's houses and they have a play kitchen. Anika has been instantly drawn to them. I thought she was a bit young to really like them, but she plays for extended periods of time standing at the counter and exploring all of the dishes and accessories. The only catch was the price and the ugliness of the pink moulded plastic monstrosities.
So, a couple of weeks ago I saw some DIY ones on Pinterest and asked my dad if he would be interested in making one. He was thrilled to take this task on. We have a store in town called the Re-store. It's run by the Habitat for Humanity organization and they take donations of building supplies from contractors or people doing renovations and re-sell them. It's like a treasure trove going in there. We were able to find a small cabinet, faucet, knobs, and a life like oven door. Voila... a couple of weeks later we have a play kitchen that looks nicer than our own kitchen!

Love, love!!

So awesome. I DIY'd Elly's play kitchen too. She loves it. It's a tad giant as we used an old entertainment unit, but it's fine because we fortunately have the room for it. Your Dad did a great job.
ReplyDeleteThat is SOOOO awesome! I bet your dad was soooo thrilled to make it for her...so awesome. Reminds me of my play kitchen my mom made for me out of cardboard because my parents couldn't afford the plastic pink monstrocity kitchen back in the day. But LN10 is getting one for Christmas this year...but a more "masculine" one with a grill.
ReplyDeleteFantastic kitchen, looks so real.
