I started chatting with a woman in the waiting room at my OB's office last week. She had 4 kids and was carrying her 5th baby, but this one was as a gestational carrier. I remarked on what a wonderful gift she was providing. She said she was not sure she'd do it again. Her own pregnancies were wonderful and very uncomplicated, this one, however, has been really difficult. Going through IVF was not too bad except for the IM progesterone shots. They were successful on the second attempt. Although she is 28, the intended parents are in their late 30's and therefore the placenta and baby are considered from a medical point of view as advanced maternal age. She's had to go through a lot of extra testing and monitoring. She has had severe nausea, bleeding, bed rest, blood clots and other complications.
I shared that my first pregnancy was IVF and this one was spontaneous and what a dramatic difference there was between the two. I don't know if it is related at all? Anyway, I wished her at very least a smooth labour and delivery.

Bless her heart and hope for a smooth delivery...
