Beta Day

Well, the long awaited beta day is finally here! My clinic normally tests 12 days post transfer, but they let me go a day early because of the blood lab closures over the Easter weekend.

I got up early and contemplated taking a HPT this morning, but only got as far as peeing in the cup, and then was too nervous to dip the stick. I set the pee aside in case I got the nerve up later in the day.

I trucked off to the lab, and waited for it to open along with a handful of hungry fasters and out-of-bed-early-with-nothing-better-to do seniors to get a good spot in line. There was the usual small talk amongst the people waiting including the complaints about not having a morning coffee yet (boo hoo -I can't have coffee at all), and wondering what today's weather will bring.

I was in and out of there quite quickly, and fortunately got a friendly but not too nosy lab tech.

The blood then gets shipped to Victoria, so even STAT orders take until the afternoon to process. The results go up online, but get faxed to the clinic, so they usually get them first. Knowing this, I went about my grocery shopping to get all the food needed for the family Easter dinner I'm hosting later in the weekend. Then I took a short walk at the park, and as I looked at the flowers sprouting up, I noticed there was a couple doing a pregnancy photo shoot. Oh boy, this is either a good omen or a bad one.

I returned home to pace by the phone, and obsessively check the online lab results. Ughhh.... the waiting game. I still couldn't bring myself to dip the stick.

Then the phone rang at about 2:45pm. The nurse sounded exceptionally cheery. She asked if I knew my results, and I told her I didn't. She then said she had great news for me. My beta number was nice and strong at 236!!!! Whoa, really?!?! I got instructions about which medications to stop and which ones to stay on. OMG, thank you!

I immediately went and dipped the HPT in the cup, and saw the 2 pink lines!

DH was away on a trip and not due back until Sunday night, but serendipitously, he called about 15 minutes after I got off the phone with the clinic to tell me he was on his way home a day early. I of course shared the news.

I have to go again Tuesday for a repeat beta, and of course it's just another hurdle cleared in this process, but just for now I'm celebrating. Today I am pregnant!
