The Grocery List

It was our wedding anniversary on Monday and I woke up with a plan to make a nice dinner for DH. This included a really nice bottle of wine, which I love, but have avoided drinking alcohol while TTC. Since we are on a break month, I figured that I can indulge in a glass or two. I set off to the store to make my purchase and while enroute I remembered that I was getting low on prenatal vitamins yet again (to continue with these this month was a non-negotiable with the RE). I picked up the vitamins at the drugstore and being environmentally friendly, didn't ask for a bag.

I nipped next door to the liquor store to pick out the perfect bottle of wine. As I paid for the wine, I set my vitamins (with the pregnant belly rubbing woman on the label) down on the counter, and looked up to see the scowl from the cashier. Oh, boy this honestly didn't even cross my mind as the association between prenatal vitamins and actually being pregnant have been so far from my reality. I didn't know how to respond, so I didn't. I was not going to go into a soliloquy with the liquor store cashier about how I'm not pregnant, but I've been taking these vitamins for years anyway, and that I'm preparing for an IVF cycle, and I haven't had a glass of wine in a really long time, but it's my anniversary, and you will sell me this bottle of wine damn it!

Note to self: next time, take the bag. I did end up having the anniversary dinner with the really nice bottle of wine, and the prenatal vitamin on the side.

  1. HA HA that's an interesting situation to get into. I wondered what the pharmacist thought of me filing a prescription for bcps and also buying prenatal vitamins at the same time. Whenever I go for any other prescriptions they remind me I have lots of bcp refills left and do I need more. I feel like saying 'nope only need them when i'm trying to get pregnant'.

The best is buying tampons and an HPT at the same time. (Hey, the symptoms are similar ... it's hard to know sometimes :) .)

After one of my many failed cycles I went to the liquor store and bought a few bottles of wine. The ding dong cashier asked me when I was expecting (I was wearing a loose dress). I got so angry with her, told her she should never ask people that, went home and drank a bottle of wine!

How presumptuous of that clerk! You might have been buying the viatmins and/or wine for someone else! That's like people who glare at overweight people with cookies in their carts (or remove items they think the overweigth person should not eat). MYOB people!!!
I am no longer TTC and I still take prenatal vitamins because they have good stuff in them (though sometimes I sneak one of my son's chewable Bugs Bunny vitamins!).
    Enjoy your wine!

Sorry you felt judged negatively by this presumptuous person. What a jerkstore! Bookworm is absolutely right on this one...
And I would pay money to see some masked crusader nipping into people's carts and whisking away the item(s) they shouldn't have! Too funny!!!!

LOL, you should have stepped back and rubbed your belly, give her something to really scowl at!
Glad you enjoyed the wine on your anniversary, and allowed yourself the indulgence. Good luck with the next cycle.
