On Sunday we had a little ivf.ca meet-up in Victoria. We picked a fairly large restaurant that would be a bit on the noisy side, so we could talk uterus without generating a lot of attention. When I called to book the reservation, they asked if it was a birthday party or other special occasion because they have an area that they set aside for groups. I told them, the was not a special occasion, it was just a group of friends getting together.
Obviously they didn't hear me completely on that one because as we sat and chatted, we noticed that the large group next to us was having.... {drumroll here} what else but a baby shower! What are the chances? Winnie the Pooh was passed around, cute little sleepeers were displayed, and silly games were played. Meanwhile we were engaged in injection and wanding chat while trying to ignore the obnoxious neighbours.
It was all a bit surreal. Anyway, we are planning to do another meet-up soon. This time we'll specifically ask if there is a baby shower going on before making the reservations.

you cant avoid it!!! Reminds me of my last trip to have my CD3 blood test - walked into the blood testing clinic and nestled on the chair was a pregnant woman who was having her GD test....so sweet....uuggghh. Then I was directed to the little room to wait for the nurse to take my blood and in she walks with a very pregnant belly. Is somebody trying to rub salt in the wounds!!!?

We met my family in a restaurant to celebrate my Dad's 70th during our last IVF and we got stuck next to a baby shower too. At first I was really upset and uncomfortable, but then I realized how lame the shower was and I actually felt sad for the expectant mother. At our little table we were chatting up a storm, laughing, telling stories ... at the shower, there were a bunch of old ladies who looked like they were about to fall asleep, a bunch of younger ones who looked like they hardly knew the guest of honor, and a bunch of empty seats.
Moral of the story = baby showers are boring. I bet you guys had more fun.

In the famous words of Alanis Morissette And isn't it ironic...don't you think
A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think... (to add irony - when I googled Alanis, one of the links was "Alanis Morissette Pregnant").

I've also had those days in the lab. Seemed everytime I went there, there was a pregnant woman waiting there...or someone with a newborn and everyone was hovering and cooing.

Ah wish I could have been there. I hope to not visit any time soon though unless it's for a vacation one day!
