Who (What Where When and Why) is Really Losing Out

I must have missed all the drama in the summer (I think it was during one of my unplugged outdoor trips) with the now banned member Secaly who was trying to sell off her male babies. I did watch the w5 program the other night and read some of her posts to try to sort out for myself what was going on. My perspective on it is that she is a very mentally ill woman who is crying out for help with all this attention seeking behaviour. She needs the help of a psychiatrist and not an IVF clinic.

It's unfortunate that this one person has had such and influence on the perceptions of IVF & embryo adoption by not only the general public, but people who have been through IVF. It saddens me to hear people say that they would have previously considered donating their left over embryos, but now won't because of the fear of them going to someone like this.

Secaly is getting her needs for attention met, and W5 is getting its need for attention met, but who is losing out as a result? -the thousands of embroys sitting frozen in limbo, and many couples who have limited other options still childless and waiting.

    What was the deal with her? I remember reading something somewhere but don't really know what happened.

    I couldn't agree more...Its really disgraceful that a competent TV channel would take no responsibility in ensuring that they follow a "normal" couple's/ woman's journey through this difficult time. Especially since the masses are already so ignorant and the cause needs a positive telecast. Its so frustrating for us all to see such people being showcased as the face for IVF.

    It's not the news media that surprises me it's how it can have such an influence on people's viewpoints (especially those who have gone through IVF) that does.

    I couldn't believe that Secaly woman, both when she was posting on here and on W5. Wasn't the poor couple who adopted her Down's Syndrome baby (and him so terribly taken away) members on this site too? HEartbreaking. I wanted to punch her when she was talking about the reasons why she wanted a daughter. "Because they're just like a princess... you can do their hair... blah blah blah" Lady, are you talking about a human child or a DOLL??. Would she sell a tomboy who doesn't fit her 'princess' image too?? Freakshow.
