New year's resolutions are a strange thing. The most common of these are lose weight, pay down a debt, quit smoking etc. What about making a baby? It’s not really something you can resolve to do when you are already doing everything in your power to conceive. Of course, it’s still the first thing I think of when someone asks the question “any resolutions this year?” I think “yep, same as the last 3 new years -start a family”.
A new year's resolution is defined as a commitment that an individual makes to a personal goal, project, or the reforming of a habit. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous. A New Years Resolution is generally a goal someone sets out to accomplish in the coming year.
Project =IVF
Commitment =you bet!
Personal goal =get to retrieval and find the golden egg.
Lifestyle change = pregnancy and motherhood
Reforming of a habit = Hmmm... this is where I get stuck because it implies I’ve been doing something wrong all this time and if I just correct that one thing I’ll magically conceive.
If you were a know-it-all fertile advice disher outer you’d say I need to resolve to “just relax” and I’ll be pregnant in no time.
If you are a subscriber to The Secret you’d tell me I just need to think positively and visualize myself with children and poof, the universe will deliver.
If you were a person that believes in karma you’d say if I am a good person and I am meant to be a parent, then it will all work out.
If you believe in alternative medicine you’d tell me I just need to have acupuncture several times a week, and take a truckload of herbs for the duration of the year and that should do it.
So, my real new years resolution is to stand tall to all of these well meaning advice givers and keep in mind that in the end there is an element of luck at play here that nobody can control. I resolve to not blame myself for the failures because I know I am doing everything humanly possible.

Amen to that, sister! The element of luck is downplayed by the medical professionals but I find it's a pretty big part of the equation. Here's to "getting lucky" in 2011! :flowers:

I love this SD. Here's to not blaming yourself. So important!

I agree with you and Earth Woman... Luck is a major factor in the entire process. So I'm wishing you a truck-load of luck - and heap loads more if you need it! :flowers:

Thanks! I'll take all the luck I can get, and some. The golden egg is proving to be a tricky find. 2011 is the year of the rabbit and rabbits are lucky AND fertile! LOL! Now someone is going to tell me to just carry a rabbit's foot around in my pocket and that will be the ticket!

Well said SD :flowers:

I'd heard it was the year of the rabbit...but I've never understood how it's lucky to kill a rabbit and take it's foot. Unless you're speaking of years ago when, instead of "OMG congrats" people said "Great, she killed the rabbit!!"

Hey I was born in the year of the rabbit...how come I'm not so fertile?? Must be that dragon I married!

Here's to the luck you need, and deserve, to find your golden egg in 2011!!
wannakid, 03 January 2011 - 07:59 PM
love it! and i'll never read or watch 'the secret' as a friend of mine spoiled it forever for me by advising me to do it as then i'd get pg... ya right. you are doing everything humanly possible.. the rest is up to the universe.. i hope you rest a bit easier at night knowing that. here's to your 2011 golden egg!

Couldn't agree more!! I did 3 IVF cycles & for the first 2, I was watching everything I consumed, didn't drink alcohol, didn't drink coffee etc. etc. And had no luck! Then with our 3rd IVF, I threw that all out the window and ate & drank whatever (including some alcohol during week of Stims) & bam! It worked! I was also super negative & pessimistic about it ever working. Soo...if anyone ever tells you that you need to have a more positive outlook to have success...wrong!! It's totally all about finding the "Golden egg". I wish I wasn't so hard on myself in the beginning. I think your blog entry is going to help a lot of women who are blaming themselves.Here's to hoping 2011 is your year!!! Good luck!!

:flowers: I can't agree more with what you said! Wishing you lots of luck, hugs and support for getting preggo in '11!!
Katiekins27, 04 January 2011 - 08:24 AM
